ても — Even If (Concessive)

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to use the ても (te mo) pattern to say "even if" or "even though" in Japanese, expressing a result that happens regardless of a condition.

The ても pattern connects two ideas: a condition and a result. It shows that the result is true no matter what the condition is. Think of it as "even if X happens, Y is still true."

Pattern:

• Verb (て form) + も
• い-adjective (くて form) + も
• な-adjective/Noun + でも

1. Verbs: て form + も

Take any verb in its て form and add も.

Example:

雨が降っても、出かけます。
Ame ga futte mo, dekakemasu.
Even if it rains, I will go out.雨降出

2. い-adjectives: くて + も

Drop the final い, add くて, then add も.

Example:

高くても、買います。
Takakutemo, kaimasu.
Even if it's expensive, I will buy it.高買

3. な-adjectives & Nouns: + でも

For な-adjectives, drop the な and add でも. For nouns, add でも directly.

Example:

先生でも、間違えます。
Sensei demo, machigaemasu.
Even a teacher makes mistakes. (Even if someone is a teacher, they make mistakes.)先生間違
